I get a good sense of what's on your mind when you talk to me before and after class.  Some of you tell me about your family, some of you talk to me about your other orchestra experiences, and some of you have found pieces you want me to program for our orchestra.  Here's one that I heard about every day last week by one of our cello students at the high school!  (And you thought I forgot!)

Here's the deal.  Give me one reason we should play this piece in the comments below.  It is ROCK, so your reason cannot be "it's a cool tune" "Zeppelin is awesome" or "it's fun"!!!  Find me a MUSICAL or PEDAGOGICAL reason to add this piece to our repertoire, and you're on.

To help you out, I have included the score and the recording of the orchestral arrangement.  Below is also a YouTube video of the original song.

                              Mrs.Spurbeck,
A couple of reasons to play this would be, 1) It would be a challenge. 2) It has balenced parts for all sections.... instead of repetative bass and cello sections. 3) It sounds great perhaps quite a bit of shifting and vibrato.
Well consider this reply and i hope it works.
                              Thanks,
                              David

David, GOOD THINKING! I like the piece, especially its driving rhythm. The glissando's look like a great way to teach cellos how to get around their cello. I agree the rhythm would be a challenge. If we were going to learn this, how could we master the beat, do you think?

Well i do believe we could consider using the Ipod i happen to own the song... but well repetition...and lots of practice... im also willing to go to the Rock thing... i could put in ,money for it too...Get back to me.
                              Thanks,
                              David

Jenny has been a cellist for 29 years and has actively shared her joy of making music with students since 1993. After earning degrees in cello performance from Vanderbilt University and Michigan State University, she pursued Suzuki Training primarily under the guidance and direction of Marilyn Kesler.  Since then she has taught a wide variety of students, both privately and in ensembles throughout her teaching career, many of whom have pursued music outside their formal education.

Jenny’s greatest musical memories include having a private lesson with Yo-Yo Ma and facilitating an informal opportunity for Mr. Ma to meet her students after he performed at the Wharton Center.  She actively performs in recitals in the community and considers herself to be a life-long learner.

Jenny is an enthusiastic advocate for encouraging young people to grow to their potential in their musical endeavors.  She lives in Lansing with her husband Sam, also a music teacher, and her two children, David (9) and Rebecca (12).
